I have had two of these and they are great coffee percolators. Right now I need a new cord to go with mine. The percolators last a long time but the cords don’t.

I have a question on this presto 12 cup coffee maker. I have used both types of filters with this coffee makes and I have lots of trouble with coffee grounds going every where. It is a real mess. I don’t remember ever using filters with another coffee maker. Can any body explain the problem. Maybe you don’t need to use a filter.

      @ Jack:
If you have grounds falling into the coffee you need to go to a coarser ground. Something pre-ground (like Folgers) will definitely fall in. I’d either try the “grind your own” at the supermarket using a coarse setting, or go coffee-geek and buy a burr grinder at home (not a blade grinder – you’ll get the same problem) and start buying whole bean.

Also, don’t use a filter — it’ll soak up the oils from the beans and you won’t get that “oil slick” look on a cup of coffee that you should get.

    Hi, Jack:

I have used this coffee maker for 3 years now with Melitta “wrap coffee filters” and have had no mess. Everyone I serve from this pot loves my coffee.

I use “Zero Water” filtered water, “New England” brand breakfast blend coffee and this pot… and always receive compliments.

Melitta USA Inc 627402 White Wrap Coffee Filter

The Melitta filters are square, with a hold in the middle for the stem, as well as a hole in each corner. Once the filter and coffee are in, the corners of the square filter fold over and fit over the stem, as well. The result is “wrapped” coffee grounds. I buy the filters at Amazon…

The filter takes some practice, but the results are worth it.
    Hope this helps.

There is a round little well in the bottom of the percolater…is it aluminum because it looks like it is.
